880 Forward Observation Battery, RA, Airborne Territorial Army

By Admin-GF

Territorial Army Service – My Impressions

Based on my experience, TA service after National Service did nothing to enhance the military preparedness of the State. All it did was to increase my distaste for these examples of army life. My service in the TA appeared to me to be a complete waste of the government’s money and my time. Again, based on my experience, I also wonder about the fitness of any TA unit, at the time, for active service.

It is sad that my association with the Army concluded in such a dis-agreeable manner; except that it forcibly demonstrated to me how different the required service in the TA was from my full time requirement where I usefully served the Royal Artillery as a Surveyor.
