2 Frightening Experiences

By GF Contributor - John Parnell

I mustn’t finish without praising the devastating action inflicted by our Bren gun positions, also the Centurion’s 20 pound shells and its machine gun which fired 7.92mm bullets at a rate of 425 rounds a minute, the latter being even more effective at such close conditions. Artillery flares gave the whole event a daytime effect. Both sides honour their dead, and it was interesting that several dead Chinese were in clear view the following morning. The day was spent making repairs to bunkers and collapsed trenches etc. None of the AP party had been injured although many of the defending infantry were not to be so fortunate.

Christianity is currently suffering a downturn in the UK just now, aided by immigrants from lands with different beliefs, atheists and others taking no interest in and intent on de-bunking and decrying the traditions of our country. The point I am making is that I am sure that without exception, every man on Little Gibraltar that dreadful night, will have said a prayer. I know that mine was answered.

Both sides the following night, kept a low and quiet profile, so that when dawn arrived the following day, no dead Chinese could be seen.
